SSC Grade โ€˜Cโ€™ Stenographers LDCE Mock Test 2027: Free Limited Departmental Competitive Examination Test Series (100 GA + 100 English)

Last Updated: 1 November 2026 | Reviewed by Ali Hassan, Senior Content Editor (Government Exams), MockTestCenter.com

Welcome to the official SSC Grade โ€˜Cโ€™ Stenographers LDCE mock test 2027 website, which has been created specifically to assist government employees. This specialized online resource for the Grade โ€˜Cโ€™ Stenographers Limited Departmental Competitive Examination is designed for regularly appointed Stenographer Grade 'D' officers working in the seven Central Government services. If you are employed in the Central Secretariat Stenographers Service (CSSS), the Railway Board Secretariat Stenographers Service (RBSSS), the Indian Foreign Service Branch 'B' (IFS-B), the Armed Forces Headquarters (AFHQ), the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), or the National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO), then this platform is tailored to your needs in preparation for your 2027 promotion to the position of Grade โ€˜Cโ€™ Stenographer (Personal Assistant).

Why I Built This Mock Test Series

"I'm Shubham Kumar Sah, founder of MockTestCenter.com.

When you're serving Grade 'D' Stenographers in CSSS, Railways, AFHQ, MEA, the Election Commission and the CVC all have the same thing on their hands in that they all prepare for the SSC Grade 'C' Stenographers Limited Departmental Competitive Examination. Almost every test platform will hand them an open market SSC Stenographer test. That's a huge trap.

Open SSC Stenographer papers have 50 Reasoning questions and only 50 GA questions. Their skill test is just a qualifying one. In your Departmental Grade 'C' LDCE there is zero Reasoning. Part A has 100 straight GA questions and 100 English Language questions in 120 minutes. More significantly your Part B 100 wpm Shorthand Skill Test is graded on 200 marks and Part C adds 100 marks for your APARs which makes it a 500 mark race.

We've built this 2027 SSC Grade 'C' Stenographers LDCE Mock Test Series completely around the 100 GA + 100 English Part-A format (based on the 4th July 2026 exam and the October 2026 final answer key) and have paired it with our 200 mark 100 wpm Shorthand Transcription Evaluator. Our AI weak area engine will tell you precisely which GA topics or English voice/narration rules are costing you the marks.

The vast majority of the series is free. A departmental diagnostic test shouldn't be behind a paywall.

Every test has to pass that one check: does it conform precisely to the actual 100 GA + 100 English CBE syllabus and 500 mark merit structure of the real SSC Grade 'C' Stenographers LDCE? If the answer is no then it won't be published."

Current staff members can use this page to access a fully authentic diagnostic testing environment. You will take full-length 200-mark Part-A Computer-Based Examinations (CBE) simulations that strictly follow the structure of 100 General Awareness questions and 100 English Language questions within the official 120-minute time limit. The platform includes the playable 4 July 2026 official CBE memory paper, which has been carefully checked against the October 2026 Final Answer Key. In addition, you will have access to our Part-B 200-Mark (100 wpm) Shorthand Dictation and Transcription accuracy calculators, detailed AI-generated reports that highlight your weak areas, and printable bilingual solution PDFs for studying offline during office trips.

This specific departmental section is intended to help working Grade 'D' stenographers avoid the common mistakes made when using general practice materials. By focusing entirely on the actual departmental examination pattern, we make sure you donโ€™t waste any evenings working on irrelevant reasoning puzzles that are typically found in open-market SSC Steno tests. Your promotion is based on achieving a unique 500-mark merit formula, and all the simulators provided here are fully in line with the requirements set out by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) and the Staff Selection Commission.

Amber Callout Box: 4 Departmental Rules That Distinguish the SSC Grade โ€˜Cโ€™ Stenographers LDCE from the Open SSC Steno Exam

ZERO Reasoning and a 100-Mark General Awareness Section: Unlike open-market SSC Stenographer mock tests, which include 50 Reasoning, 50 General Awareness, and 100 English questions, the departmental SSC Grade โ€˜Cโ€™ Stenographers LDCE exam contains absolutely no Reasoning. Part-A CBE consists of exactly 100 questions (100 marks) on General Awareness and 100 questions (100 marks) on Comprehension and Knowledge of the English Language, all to be completed in two hours (120 minutes), with a -0.25 penalty for incorrect answers.

Part-B Shorthand Skill Test is a Graded 200-Mark Examination: In contrast to the open SSC Steno exam where the skill test is only a qualifying requirement, in the Grade โ€˜Cโ€™ LDCE the Part-B Shorthand Skill Test is a fully graded 200-mark examination (10 minutes of dictation at 100 wpm; 40 minutes of English or 55 minutes of Hindi computer transcription). These marks are added directly to your final rank.

500-Mark Final Merit Formula: The final cadre-wise select lists are prepared on the basis of 500 marks. The formula is made up of Part-A CBE (200 marks) plus Part-B Shorthand Skill Test (200 marks) plus Part-C Evaluation of Service Record / APARs (100 marks).

Calibrated to the 4 July 2026 CBE and the October 2026 Official Final Answer Key: The 2025โ€“26 benchmark cycle was announced on 22 December 2025 (F. No. 4/2/2025-CONF-5). The CBE was held on 4 July 2026, and the results were declared on 25 August 2026. The Updated Tentative Vacancy PDF was issued on 23 October 2026, and the Final Answer Key along with the Final Marks were uploaded on 29 or 30 October 2026. Our 2027 mock series has been carefully aligned with that 4 July 2026 paper.

Part-A Section 1 Simulator โ€” General Awareness (100 Questions, 100 Marks โ€” Why GA Carries Double the Weight of Open Steno)
Answering 100 questions on General Awareness in one sitting demands a great deal of concentration. Since the Commission has removed the Reasoning section, it has doubled the weight of General Awareness in order to thoroughly assess a serving officialโ€™s knowledge of national policies, the constitutional framework, and global affairs. Our simulator forces you to work through this dense block of knowledge without being worn down by the effects of negative marking.
Part-A Section 2 Simulator โ€” Comprehension & Knowledge of English Language (100 Questions, 100 Marks โ€” Your 85+ Score Anchor)
English forms the foundation of a Stenographerโ€™s daily work, and this 100-mark section serves as your main source of scoring. The simulator mirrors the exact mix of direct grammar rules, vocabulary use, and extended reading comprehension passages. If you score 85 or more in this section, it makes up for any difficulties you may have encountered in the broad General Awareness section.

Part-B Simulator โ€” Shorthand Skill Test at 100 WPM (200 Marks: 10-Min Dictation + 40-Min English / 55-Min Hindi Transcription)
Your level of shorthand ability is directly reflected in the raw marks on the merit list. We simulate the exact 10-minute audio dictation at a strict rate of 100 words per minute. After the dictation, you are tested on your transcription speed against the official 40-minute English or 55-minute Hindi computer timer. Each omitted word, spelling error, or punctuation mistake is counted to determine your score out of 200.

Part-C APAR Evaluation (100 Marks) and how separate cadre-wise select lists are prepared across the 7 services
The final 100 marks are based on your Annual Performance Appraisal Reports (APARs). These reports are only assessed after you have cleared both the Part-A CBE and the Part-B Skill Test. The final merit is calculated out of 500 marks, but you do not compete with all candidates; the Commission prepares separate cadre-wise Select Lists (for example, CSSS candidates compete within CSSS, AFHQ candidates within AFHQ) according to the number of available vacancies.

Negative Marking (-0.25) and the mathematics of safe guessing in the 100-question General Awareness section

Scenario (4-option MCQ) Probability of Correct Guess Marks if Correct Penalty if Wrong Expected Value (EV) Per Question
Blind Guess (4 options remain) 25% (1/4) +1.00 -0.25 0.00
One option eliminated (3 remain) 33.3% (1/3) +1.00 -0.25 +0.166
Two options eliminated (2 remain) 50% (1/2) +1.00 -0.25 +0.375
Known answer (1 remains) 100% (1/1) +1.00 -0.25 +1.00

Worked Example A: Grade 'D' stenographers who guess blindly on 30 General Awareness questions they do not know face serious consequences. Statistically, blind guessing results in about 7 correct answers (+7.00) and 23 incorrect ones (-5.75), giving a negligible gain. However, bad luck often brings the correct answer rate down, leading to a loss of 5.00 to 6.00 net marks. In a highly competitive departmental exam, losing 6 marks can ruin your ranking in the cadre.

Worked Example B: If you limit your second-pass attempts to questions where you have eliminated two options, the maths change completely. A 50:50 guess gives an Expected Value (EV) of +0.375 per question. By attempting 20 such narrowed questions, you are statistically rewarded with about 10 correct answers (+10.00) and 10 incorrect ones (-2.50), resulting in a solid net gain of +7.50 marks, which actively protects your total in the Part-A CBE.

120-Minute (2-Hour) Pacing Plan: Completing 100 GA and 100 English Questions without Reasoning Fatigue

By removing 50 difficult Reasoning questions, the 120-minute time limit becomes very generous for a 200-question reading-based paper. You have 36 seconds per question in total. The real challenge is managing reading fatigue. If you properly time the three Reading Comprehension passages and the extended Cloze tests, you will have plenty of time left for review.

Phase and Time Limit Section Focus and Strategy Execution Goal
Minutes 1โ€“38 (38 Minutes) Section 1 โ€” General Awareness (100 Qs) Average of 23 seconds per question. Answer questions with certain answers immediately; mark 50:50 options for review. Do not spend too long on them.
Minutes 39โ€“85 (47 Minutes) Section 2 Wave 1 โ€” 70 Non-Passage English Questions Attack Active-Passive, Direct-Indirect, Grammar, Vocab, and Sentence Improvement at a fast and confident pace.
Minutes 86โ€“110 (25 Minutes) Section 2 Wave 2 โ€” 30 Reading Comprehension & Para-Jumbles Slow down. Read the passages carefully. Answer the Cloze tests using contextual grammar rules.
Minutes 111โ€“120 (10 Minutes) Final 50:50 Elimination and Review Pass Go back to the GA and English questions that you marked. Carry out the 50:50 elimination calculation. Check all the questions you did not attempt.

Common Mistakes Grade โ€˜Dโ€™ Stenographers Make in LDCE Mock Tests (And How to Avoid Them)

1. Practicing Open-Market Steno Tests: Wasting time on Reasoning blocks that do not exist in the Departmental Grade 'C' LDCE. Fix: Focus 100% on the 100 GA + 100 English blueprint.
2. Blind Guessing Across General Awareness: Ignoring the -0.25 penalty and guessing blindly on unknown static facts. Fix: Apply the 50:50 elimination expected value strategy.
3. Treating Skill Test as Qualifying Only: Taking the 100 wpm shorthand test casually when it carries a massive 200 marks toward final merit. Fix: Practice daily 100 wpm dictation and computer transcription.
4. Missing Departmental Forwarding Deadlines: Failing to route hard copies through the Head of Office "Through Proper Channel" before the SSC Northern Region deadline. Fix: Treat physical paperwork with the same urgency as online submission.

A) Total internal reflection of light [Correct]
B) Dispersion of light
C) Interference of light
D) Scattering of light

Option A (Correct) โ€” Reason: A mirage is caused by the total internal reflection of light as it passes through layers of air which have different temperatures and densities.

Option C (Incorrect) โ€“ Reason: Interference occurs when overlapping light waves produce patterns.
Option D (Incorrect) โ€“ Reason: It is scattering that causes the sky to appear blue.
Tip: When light bends entirely back up from the hot surface layer, this reflection occurs.

Section 2 โ€” Comprehension & Knowledge of English Language (100 Marks: Voice, Narration, Grammar, Vocab & Cloze): 5 Solved Multiple Choice Questions

Q6: Choose the correct passive voice version of the sentence: "The committee has published the revised guidelines for departmental promotions."
A) The committee has published the revised guidelines concerning departmental promotions.
B) The committee had published the revised guidelines for departmental promotions.
C) The committee has published the revised guidelines concerning departmental promotions.
D) The revised guidelines for departmental promotions have been published by the committee. [Correct]

For Option A (Incorrect): The tense and meaning are altered.
Option D (Correct) โ€” Reason: The present perfect tense "has published" correctly converts to "have been published" matching the plural subject "guidelines".
Hint: Although the present perfect tense is to be retained, the auxiliary verb must be changed to agree with the new plural subject.

Q7: Which is the correct indirect narration of the sentence given? The Under Secretary told the staff to submit their confidential reports by tomorrow.
A) The Under Secretary instructed the staff to hand in their confidential reports by tomorrow.
B) The Under Secretary told the staff to hand in their confidential reports the following day.
C) The Under Secretary ordered the staff to submit their confidential reports by the next day. [Correct]
D) The Under Secretary requested that the staff should submit your confidential reports the following day.

Option C (Correct) โ€” Reason: the reporting verb is changed to "ordered", the infinitive "to submit" is used, and "tomorrow" is correctly replaced by "the next day".
Hint: Imperative commands are expressed using 'to' followed by the verb and involve the use of time expressions which are moved back in time.

Q8: In the sentence "Neither the Section Officer nor the assistants was aware of the new biometric attendance rules", identify the part containing the grammatical error.
A) Neither the Section Officer
B) nor the assistants
C) was aware of the [Correct]
D) new biometric attendance rules

Option C (Correct) โ€” Reason: The mistake is in this case. With a "neither...nor" structure, the verb has to match the noun that is closest to it. Since "assistants" is plural, the correct form should be "were aware".
Tip: To work out whether the noun is singular or plural, look at the noun that comes directly before the verb.

Q9: Choose the most suitable option to correct the underlined part: The official notification said that the vacant posts will be filled up strictly on the basis of seniority.
A) will be filled up [Correct]
B) would be fill up
C) will fill up
D) No improvement required

Option A (Correct) because the passive voice has to include the auxiliary verb "will be" followed by the past participle "filled".
Note that passive verbs always necessitate the third form (the past participle) of the main verb.

Q10: Choose the meaning most suitable for the idiom "to keep things under wraps" in an official context.
A) To finalize a file disposal quickly
B) To keep something completely secret or confidential [Correct]
C) To delay the processing of a document
D) To cover official documents with physical wrappers

Option B (Correct) โ€” Reason: The expression "under wraps" means to keep information concealed or to maintain strict confidentiality about a particular matter.
Tip: Keep a highly sensitive draft completely out of sight from the public.

Safe Score Benchmarks out of 200 (Part-A CBE) & 500 (Final Merit) across CSSS, AFHQ, IFS-B and RBSSS

Category and Service Target CBE Score (out of 200) Target Skill Score (out of 200) APAR Projection Final Target Merit (out of 500)
CSSS (UR) 148 โ€“ 155+ 175 โ€“ 185 85 โ€“ 90 408 โ€“ 430
CSSS (SC/ST) 135 โ€“ 145+ 165 โ€“ 175 80 โ€“ 85 380 โ€“ 405
IFS Branch 'B' (UR) 152 โ€“ 158+ 180 โ€“ 190 85 โ€“ 90 417 โ€“ 438
AFHQ (UR) 145 โ€“ 152+ 170 โ€“ 180 85 โ€“ 90 400 โ€“ 422
PwBD (All Cadres) 120 โ€“ 130+ 150 โ€“ 160 80 โ€“ 85 350 โ€“ 375

Scoring between 145 and 158+ out of 200 in the Part-A CBE provides a large margin of safety. Nevertheless, it is pairing this with a score of 165 to 180+ out of 200 in the 100 wpm Skill Test that truly ensures your position at the top of the Select List. A strong performance in the skill test easily offsets average APAR grading.
