RRB JE Mock Test 2027: Free CBT-1 & Branch-Wise CBT-2 Practice Series (CEN 04/2026 Pattern)

Last Updated: 25th October 2026 | Reviewed by Ali Hassan, Senior Content Editor (Government Exams), MockTestCenter.com

Verification Disclaimer: Candidates must verify all allocations of vacancies, qualification equivalencies, age relaxation limits, medical standards (A-3, B-1, B-2, C-1) and exam groupings against the official Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) 04/2026 PDF on the regional RRB websites and rrb.indianrailways.gov.in prior to submitting their final application.

Why I Built This Mock Test Series

I'm Shubham Kumar Sah, Founder of MockTestCenter.com.

If you go looking for an RRB JE mock test you're pretty much going to end up on a rather ragged list with the Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics papers all muddled together. The absolute worst is that the 'free tests' at the top are just your standard Current Affairs quizzes. The actual RRB JE is a very different beast.

CBT-1 is a 90 minute 100 mark screening test with 85% of the paper being Mathematics, Class 10 Science and Reasoning. You are then shortlisted for Pay Level 6 purely on the basis of your CBT-2 performance once you clear the 1:15 filter. CBT-2 is a 100 mark paper with 100 marks from your specific engineering branch and 50 marks from the non-technical section (Environment, Pollution Control, Computer Basics and Physics/Chemistry) all of which are to be attempted using an on-screen virtual scientific calculator.

Practising on a generic non-technical paper or without the virtual scientific calculator will see you lose real marks on the day.

That's why the series is neatly broken down by stage and by engineering stream with separate tabs for CBT-1 screening, the branch wise CBT-2 papers, the 50 mark CBT-2 non technical booster and the timed practice papers based on the October 2026 shift papers.

The bulk of the series is free. A diagnostic test shouldn't be behind a paywall.

Every test in the series has to pass one test in the end: will it actually be of any use to the engineer walking into the exam to know exactly which exam group they're in, which syllabus split they're sitting, which virtual calculator rules they have to abide by and which negative marking maths they're subject to? If the answer to that is no then it won't be published.

URGENT CORRECTION / AMBER CALLOUT BOX

Direct Clarification for Railway Aspirants:

  1. (1) No CBT-1 Marks in Final Merit, No Interview, No Trade Test: There is a very common misconception that CBT-1 marks will be carried forward to the final merit list. This is absolutely not the case. CBT-1 is a 100 question, 90 minute common test which is used to shortlist candidates at a ratio of 1:15 (1 candidate per 15 vacancies). CBT-1 marks do NOT form part of the final merit list. There is NO interview, NO viva, NO practical trade test and NO computer based aptitude test (CBAT). Your selection into Pay Level 6 is purely on the basis of CBT-2, followed by Document Verification and Medical Examination.
  2. (2) Stream Specific Branch Tests Required: Never use a generic non-technical test for your engineering preparation. In CBT-2 you will be required to write 100 of the 150 marks from your specific Engineering Exam Group (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics/S&T, Computer Science/IT or CMA) and you will be provided with an on screen Virtual Scientific Calculator.
  3. (3) Current Cycle Context: The CEN 04/2026 notification (revised to 4029 total posts via Corrigendum 1 of 18 August 2026) had its CBT-1 on 27th and 28th October 2026. CBT-2 is therefore expected in Early 2027 with the next annual notification cycle being projected for July-September 2027 as per the official RRB calendar.

Preparing for a technical post in Indian Railways requires a high degree of discipline, a very strong understanding of your branch and complete familiarity with the computer based test. To get a JE (Junior Engineer), DMS (Depot Material Superintendent) or CMA (Chemical and Metallurgical Assistant) appointment at Pay Level 6 you need a robust diagnostic system. A good RRB JE Mock Test 2027 programme will replicate the actual CBT interface and will test you on your knowledge across the core engineering subjects, applied maths, environment control and computer basics. This platform offers a comprehensive, cycle aware practice ecosystem designed for the 3 year diploma, B.E./B.Tech and B.Sc candidate.

Clearing the 4 Big Confusions about the RRB JE Exam 2026-27

Misinformation about the RRB JE exam is rampant on the various coaching sites on the internet. It is important to look at the actual administrative rules before you start any preparation.

Confusion Point Common Myth on Coaching Sites Verified Administrative Reality
Stage Weightage & Interview Assumes CBT-1 marks are carried forward to the final merit list or that an interview/trade test exists. CBT-1 is a 100 mark screening test used to shortlist candidates at a 1:15 ratio. Final merit is 100% on CBT-2. There is NO interview, NO trade test, NO viva, NO psycho test.
Branch Grouping & DMS Eligibility Mixes Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, S&T and CMA into a generic test list or ignores DMS eligibility. CBT-2 is a 100 mark branch specific test. DMS (324 posts) is open to any graduate or diploma holder from ANY engineering branch.
Active Timeline Context Treats the October 2026 exam as a future event. CEN 04/2026 CBT-1 was held on 27th and 28th October 2026. The practice modules are designed for the active CBT-2 window and the upcoming 2027 cycles.
Calculation Tools & Negative Marking Claims that calculators are banned or that negative marking is not applicable. An on screen Virtual Scientific Calculator is provided during CBT-2. A negative marking of 1/3rd of a mark (-0.333) applies to each incorrect answer in both CBT-1 and CBT-2.

Negative Marking Safe Guess Strategy Table

Elimination Level Mathematical Odds Expected Value per Guess Strategic Recommendation
No Elimination (blind guess) 1 in 4 chance of being correct 0.00 Marks Never make blind guesses as the penalty will eat into your raw score
1 option eliminated 1 in 3 chance of being correct +0.11 marks Favourable odds - worth attempting if you can eliminate one option
2 options eliminated 1 in 2 chance of it being correct +0.33 marks Very favourable odds - always go for a guess when you can rule out 2 options.

Worked Example 1 (CBT-1: 100 Questions): If you attempt 85 questions, get 68 correct and 17 wrong:
Raw Score = (68 x 1) - (17 x 0.333) = 68 - 5.66 = 62.34 Marks

Worked Example 2 (CBT-2: 150 Questions): If you attempt 130 questions, get 105 correct and 25 wrong:
Raw Score = (105 x 1) minus (25 x 0.333). This is 105 minus 8.32, which equals 96.68 marks.

CBT-2 Technical Sample Question & Step by Step Solution (Electrical)

Q. A 220V, 50Hz single phase transformer has 200 turns on the primary and 400 turns on the secondary. What is the maximum value of flux in the core?

Step by Step Solution:
EMF equation for a transformer:
E1 = 4.44 times f times Φm times N1
Substituting known values:
220 = 4.44 x 50 x Φm x 200
220 = 44,400 x Φm
Phi m = 220 / 44,400 = 0.00495 Wb (or 4.95 mWb)

CBT-2 Non Technical Rank Decider (50 Marks)

  • Basics of Environment and Pollution Control
  • Basics of Computers and Applications

Analyzing the October 2026 (CEN 04/2026) CBT-1 Shift Papers - How to use your Response Sheet

Following the October 2026 CBT-1 exams the official response sheets were made available to the candidates via their candidate login portal. A proper analysis of those is absolutely essential for CBT-2 prep.

Re-solve every incorrect question: go through every incorrect and unattempted question. Re-solve the technical and mathematical questions on paper without looking at the key.
Classify the error: Was it a conceptual error, a calculation error, due to not being familiar with the virtual calculator or a negative marking trap?
Normalisation awareness: The multi shift papers are statistically normalised to take account of the variation in difficulty across shifts. Final shortlisting is on the basis of the normalised percentile and not the raw total.

Error Log Template

Question Type / Topic Reason Missed (Concept / Formula / Calculator / Misread) Correct Fix / Rule to Remember Revisit Date
Example: Strength of Materials (BMD) Formula / Sign convention error Hogging bending moment is negative by convention. After 3 days
Example: Environment (Global Warming) Conceptual gap Montreal Protocol was for the ozone layer, Kyoto Protocol was for the greenhouse gases. After 5 days

Historical context (CEN 03/2024): the official regional cutoffs in the prior cycles varied from board to board depending on the number of candidates, the category-wise reservations and the regional vacancy quotas.

Important note: The figures from prior years are purely for historical purposes. Given that the difficulty of the paper, the strength of the applicant pool and the number of posts available all vary from cycle to cycle, candidates in 2027 in no way should be looking at the past cutoffs as a target to aim for.

Product Feature: AI-Based Weak Area Recommendation

Smart Performance Coach

Taking practice tests without some form of diagnosis of your weak areas is absolutely a waste of time. The test engine has an inbuilt diagnostic tracking system which works as follows:

Once you've submitted a test, the analytical engine goes through your performance in a far more granular way than just looking at your overall percentile. It pinpoints the exact conceptual 'joints' where you've gone wrong in your branch technical paper or CBT-1 screening (e.g. a sign convention mistake in Strength of Materials, a formula error in transformer flux calculations, time loss on environment control sets, or mistakes while using the virtual scientific calculator).

It then creates specific revision advice which acts as your very own personal performance mentor, ensuring that your next attempt is focused precisely on your actual weak areas rather than just your well-known strengths.

Personalized Diagnostic Feedback: Post-test sectional analysis se candidate ko exact branch topic gaps dikhte hain taaki agle mock attempt mein focused revision ke sath score improve ho sake.

5 Common Mistakes RRB JE Aspirants Make in Mock Tests

  • Practising with mixed branch papers (i.e. doing the generic papers with a mixture of Civil and Electrical questions) will not get you to the required level of technical depth for the 100 mark CBT-2 technical paper.
  • Ignore the Virtual Scientific Calculator. If you don't get into the habit of using the on-screen scientific calculator during your mock tests you're going to be spending a huge amount of time on the actual exam flogging through the engineering formulae.
  • Don't ignore the Non-Technical CBT-2 section: if you're only doing the technical bits and completely ignoring the 50 mark non-technical section (Environment, Computers, Physics/Chemistry) then you're going to be massively limiting your final merit score.
  • Failing to maintain an error log: if you do your mock tests without going back to the questions you got wrong you're just going to keep making the same concept errors again and again.
  • Treat CBT-1 as being of no value (as the marks don't carry forward) and you end up with candidates below the 1:15 shortlist threshold.
